Minister Byamukama inaugurates the National State Safety Programme Coordination Group
The Minister of State for Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama, inaugurated the National State Safety Programme Coordination Group (NSSPCG) on March 12, 2024 at Protea Hotel, Kampala, in compliance with the safety requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The Minister urged the NSSPCG to embrace data driven decision making, strong leadership and unwavering collaboration. He reiterated the need for innovation, continuous learning, and adaptability to navigate the complexities of modern aviation safety management.
The roles of the group include overseeing the implementation and continuous improvement of the State safety programme, enhancing coordination and information sharing, monitoring compliance with international standards, identifying and ensuring mitigation of national safety risks and fostering a strong safety culture in the aviation industry.
The NSSPCG will be chaired by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) Director General, Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye. Other members of the Committee include the UCAA Deputy Director General, Ms Olive B. Lumonya, the Director Safety, Security and Economic Regulation, Eng. Ronny Barongo, the Director Airports & Aviation Security, Eng. Sooma Ayub, the Director Air Navigation Services, Mr. Richard |Ruhesi, the Commander of the Uganda Peoples Defence Air Forces, Lt. Gen Charles Okidi, Commissioner of Transport Regulation and Safety, Mr. Katushabe Winstone and a representative from the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Unit, Capt. Bruno Oringi.
The event was witnessed by the UCAA Board Chairman Rtd. Hon. Justice Steven Kavuma, members of the Board of UCAA, representatives from the Ministry of Works and Transport, and other industry stakeholders.
