Strengthening Border Security & Passenger Facilitation
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, in partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), officially opened the ICAO Traveler Identification Programme (TRIP) Strategy Training, starting from 18–22 August 2025 at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.
The 5-day training brought together 100 Ugandan officials drawn from immigration, aviation, customs and law enforcement.
It focused on the five key pillars of the ICAO TRIP strategy, which include: evidence of identity, document issuance and control, machine-readable travel documents, inspection systems and tools, and interoperable applications, among others.
In his remarks, the Director General of Uganda CAA, Mr.Fred K. Bamwesigye emphasized that accurate identification and seamless facilitation remain central to aviation safety, border security, and the overall passenger experience.
He also highlighted Uganda’s strong performance in the 2024 ICAO Security Audit, which reaffirmed the country’s commitment to global aviation security standards.
With Entebbe International Airport handling 1.13 million international passengers in the first half of 2025, alongside ongoing expansion works, such training is a vital step in ensuring secure, efficient, and sustainable growth in Uganda’s aviation sector.
