UCAA Hosts Annual Iftar Dinner
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) hosted the annual Iftar Dinner at the UCAA Head Office and brought together members of the Muslim community within the aviation sector for an evening of reflection, gratitude, and unity on March 25, 2025.
Speaking at the event, the UCAA Director General, Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
He highlighted the importance of Ramadan, emphasizing its values of discipline, empathy, and communal harmony. He reiterated a promise made during last year’s Iftar dinner to make this event an annual tradition, allowing the aviation fraternity to come together and share in the blessings of the holy month.
“This gathering is a reflection of the strong bonds we share, not just as colleagues, but as a community committed to mutual respect and support. We are grateful for the opportunity to host and celebrate this moment with you all,” he stated.
Mr. Bamwesigye also shared insights on the continued growth of Uganda’s aviation industry, reporting that Entebbe International Airport handled 161,035 passengers in February 2025, an average 5,751 passengers per day.
While this was slightly lower than the January 2025 figures, he noted that the numbers remain above pre-pandemic levels, which is an encouraging sign of progress.
He acknowledged the significant contributions of the Muslim community to the airport’s passenger traffic, particularly during the Hajj and Umrah seasons, as well as through business travel.
“We deeply appreciate your patronage and the role you play in supporting aviation in Uganda. Your engagement with the airport’s services is invaluable, and we remain committed to enhancing your travel experience,” he noted.
The Director General extended his appreciation to the organizing committee for their dedication in making the event a success and reaffirmed UCAA’s commitment to ensuring this dinner remains a highlight of the annual calendar.
The UCAA Board Chairman, Justice Steven Kavuma, expressed his best wishes to all those observing Ramadan. Also present was UCAA’s Board Member, Ms Ethel Kamba, among other guests.
