April 10, 2025 | Kampala, Uganda
Uganda’s key aviation industry players participated in a two-day State Safety Programme (SSP) Awareness Training for senior management and accountable executives from April 9–10, 2025, at Protea Hotel in Kampala.
The training, facilitated by the UK Civil Aviation Authority International (UKCAAi) under the Airbus Support Programme, aimed to build national capacity and enhance understanding of the State Safety Programme—a globally endorsed framework for managing aviation safety risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
The training equipped senior leaders with the knowledge and tools required to implement and integrate SSP into their respective organizations’ Safety Management Systems (SMS). Participants were guided on how to fulfill their roles in promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with both national and international safety regulations.
It marked a significant step toward strengthening Uganda’s aviation safety oversight and aligning it with international best practices. Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Authority’s Director General, Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye noted that “fostering leadership engagement and awareness was crucial to the long-term success of the SSP implementation.”
The Authority’s Board Chairman, Hon Justice Steven Kavuma reiterated its commitment to continuous capacity building and collaboration with “global aviation partners to maintain high safety standards across Uganda’s airspace.”
