UCAA Hosts Iftar Dinner for Muslim Community During Holy Month of Ramadan
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) management and staff hosted members of the Muslim community and aviation stakeholders for a special Iftar dinner on the evening of Friday, March 6, 2026, at the UCAA Head Office. The gathering was organized in observance of the holy month of Ramadan and served as a moment of reflection, unity, and fellowship.
In his remarks, the Director General of UCAA, Fred K. Bamwesigye, highlighted the significance of Ramadan and the values it promotes, including unity, discipline, empathy, and service to others. He noted that these principles resonate strongly with the aviation sector, where collaboration, responsibility, and dedication are essential in ensuring safe and efficient air transport operations.
Mr. Bamwesigye also briefed the gathering on the recent operational disruptions affecting some flights between Entebbe International Airport and destinations in the Middle East. Since Saturday, February 28, 2026, several flights to Dubai, Sharjah, and Doha were unable to depart from Entebbe or land at their destinations, affecting operators of direct services from Entebbe to these cities.
The airlines impacted included Qatar Airways, Emirates, flydubai, Air Arabia, and Uganda Airlines.
“With various airports in the affected areas announcing a phased resumption of operations, Air Arabia has since resumed flights to Sharjah. Flydubai also resumed its morning operations to Dubai yesterday and operated another flight this morning, currently maintaining the morning schedule while the evening service is yet to resume,” he said.
He further noted that Flynas, operating flights to Riyadh, is another Middle East-bound carrier that has maintained operations during this period. Meanwhile, Qatar Airways to Doha, Emirates, and Uganda Airlines are among the carriers yet to resume their Dubai flights.
The Authority advised passengers to remain in close contact with their respective airlines for the latest travel updates and flight schedules.
The annual Iftar gathering remains a cherished tradition at the Authority, bringing together the aviation fraternity and members of the Muslim community to strengthen bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood, reflect on shared values, and celebrate the diversity that enriches the institution.
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority extended warm wishes of Ramadan Kareem to the entire Muslim community.
