Uganda CAA Joins Industry Stakeholders at Women in Aviation Gala
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority joined aviation and tourism industry stakeholders at the Women in Aviation Gala organized by Aerospace Uganda on March 8, 2026, at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
The event, held in commemoration of International Women’s Day, celebrated the growing contribution of women in the aviation sector and provided a platform for dialogue on advancing gender inclusion across the industry.
The gala was graced by the Minister of Works and Transport, Katumba Wamala, who highlighted ongoing developments in Uganda’s aviation sector and emphasized the importance of increasing women’s participation across all professions in the industry. He noted that inclusive growth within aviation is essential for innovation, sustainability, and national development.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were the Deputy Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, Olive B. Lumonya; Mike Mukula; Acting Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, Girma Wake; and President of the Uganda Tourism Association, Yogi Birigwa.
During the event, Ms. Lumonya delivered a keynote address reflecting on leadership and the empowerment of women in aviation. She highlighted the importance of mentorship, professional development, and creating opportunities for women to thrive in technical and leadership roles within the sector.
The gala brought together aviation professionals, policymakers, and industry leaders who shared insights and experiences on expanding female representation in aviation careers—an industry that has traditionally been regarded as male-dominated.
The discussions underscored the collective responsibility of stakeholders to support policies, training opportunities, and initiatives that encourage more women to pursue and excel in aviation-related professions.
